The unfunded commitments

4/7/2012: Word down here at the faculty club is that Frances Dyke and Jim Bean have left UO with $15 to $30 million in unfunded obligations. Jamie Moffitt thinks she can patch it up though. Or at least that’s what I think I’m hearing, the music’s pretty loud.

Is that on top of whatever mess Linton left the VPR’s office in?

Yes, I think that is an added bonus.

Jamie has a handle on things but she likes to puff herself up by insinuating her predecessors were incompetent or worse. Only she can save UO, and it will require her to work “24/7”. Expect some transparency about the mistakes the office made before she arrived to rescue things. But she’ll never disclose anything that might someday make herself look bad, she’s a control freak.

It would be particularly helpful if you mentioned what constituted those “unfunded obligations”…Without some more detail a reader can’t tell whether it is incompetence, a heritage of previous decisions, or independence without oversight.

This is ridiculous — there’s really tens of millions in “unfunded obligations,” whatever that means? Does that include UO’s $58 million in “reserve funds”? Does any of this make any sense at all?

What does our ace Senate Budget Committee have to say about all this?
