Law school woes

8/4/2012: Jeff Manning of the Oregonian has a story on the woes of recent Oregon law school graduates: increasing debt, flat salaries, falling employment rates. One fact that surprised me: over the past 10 years the number of Oregon lawyers has increased by 10%, about the same rate as population growth, to 12,276. Out of curiosity I looked up the number of physicians in the state: up 27% over 2002-2010, to 9,737. Too bad UO doesn't have a medical school.

  1. My understanding is that the UO law school receives millions in subsidies from CAS. These are supposed to be decreasing under Shelton's new budget model. Does anyone know if that is actually happening? Tuition still seems quite low.

Thanks for commenting on a UO matter. We value comments with solid information, unverified rumors, or your considered, honest opinion - especially if that involves no more than one cuss word.
