While UO’s VP for Enrollment and the other junketeers are spinning their spin, the UOPD is sending out a more realistic message:

With much activity near campus tonight, and throughout the season, please help keep your friends safe — Ducks do something! It’s on us.

  • Don’t touch people against their will, or without their consent (and incapacitated people are not able to legally consent); this is a crime. Do not attempt to impair someone through intoxication or other means. Do not “spike” food or beverage in an attempt to impair someone; this is illegal.
  • Keep your beverages in your control. Don’t accept an open beverage from an unknown source, offered by a person that you do not trust.
  • Look out for the well-being of friends who may be incapacitated. Don’t leave an impaired friend alone, or with a stranger or untrusted acquaintance. If a friend needs medical help, call 9-1-1.
  • Don’t let fear of an alcohol violation (minor in possession, etc.) keep you from getting medical help or reporting a suspicious situation. Safety is the number one priority for law enforcement, not issuing minor citations.
  • Schedule a pickup from ASUO’s Safe Ride (541-346-RIDE  (7433) ext. 2) or the Designated Driver Shuttle (541-346-0442) or call a taxi. Don’t drive or cycle while intoxicated, don’t get into a vehicle with anyone who has been drinking, and don’t let a friend do the same. Don’t accept a ride from someone you don’t trust.
  • In neighborhoods around campus, be a thoughtful community member. People live in these neighborhoods full-time, and have the right to a peaceful community. Disorderly conduct, vandalism, and excessive noise are all illegal and violators can be cited by police. Be considerate, and help make a positive reputation for all Ducks.

Stay safe, and GO DUCKS!
