But my real objection is that Bean was appointed interim provost w/o a search, then made permanent w/o a search, then tried to become interim president w/o a search. Never and performance review. He's built his whole career off avoiding faculty input and evaluation of his performance. And it shows.

He's hardly the only JHaller to pull that off: Moffitt, Galvan, etc. Sorry, it's all just too inbred and cozy.

I see nothing unreasonable about this. You might not like Bean's "sabbatical," but the alternative was what? Probably long-term disability @ same rate as sabbatical. A "review" you would likely call a farce, inasmuch as there isn't time to hire a new provost from outside. Apparently Berdahl -- remember when he was St. Bob just a few weeks back? -- thinks Jim is OK. I can easily imagine a month transition period is in order. St. Lorraine is clearly being worn down by her job, which there is no indication she really wanted, except that she was needed. We're probably in for enough of a rough ride as it is. So shut up and be happy!
